“We are not justified by our wisdom, intelligence, piety, or by any action of ours, however holy, but by faith, the one means by which God has justified men from the beginning.” (St. Clement I, Pope, “Letter to the Corinthians”)

  1. I truly don’t care whether I’m justified – I’m certain that I don’t have faith because I’m hoping to be rewarded for it or because I’m afraid of being punished if I don’t.

Having faith is its own reward; being unaware of your faith is itself “punishment.”
